The Jungu Josh Series by Constant van Graan

Jungu Josh is an exciting series of fantasy adventure novels – ideal for middle grade readers. The story focuses on the 13-year-old Josh McGreer, a London resident with African ancestry, who must find answers about his missing mother in the dense jungles of East Africa. With the help of Njeri, a no-nonsense warrior girl, Josh pieces together the puzzle of his mom’s disappearance and the powers of the magical golden calabash he is told to find.

It leads to an epic journey, filled with dangerous encounters with wild animals – with a twist! – and soon becomes a life-changing experience for Josh.

There are three books in this popular series by Constant van Graan. Van Graan is a celebrated playwright, novelist and academic. He is also the lead singer and songwriter of the alternative band, Pelican State.

News update via jungujosh.com:

After the success of the Jungu Josh series last year, readers and fans can look forward to big developments in 2025. These include: an adult graphic novel (Jungu Josh and the Hoba Scroll) to be released at Comic Con, the new video game Jungu Josh and the Trials of the Calabash, the development of Book 2 (Jungu Josh and the Warrior of Abumondja) as a screenplay, as well as new schools that will enjoy Jungu Josh as a prescribed book in their classrooms this year.

In April, Jungu Josh will make a visit to the world’s largest children’s book fair in Bologna, Italy, where international rights will be negotiated.

The creator of Jungu Josh, Constant van Graan, is also busy writing a new book – an epic bildungsroman – which will hopefully be finished later this year. It follows Geheim in die riete which hit the shelves last year.

So many things to look forward to! Hold on to your seats and enjoy the adventure of 2025 with Josh, Njeri and all the other Jungu Josh characters!
