Irma Venter awarded the ATKV Suspense Prize 2025 for ‘Al wat tel’

Irma Venter is the winner of the ATKV Suspense Prize 2025, the ATKV announced today. Venter receives this prize for her novel Al wat tel (All That Counts), the third book in the acclaimed series of suspense novels with Ami Prinsloo, a journalist and former Olympic swimmer, as the protagonist.

The judges said the following about the novel:

“Irma Venter indeed writes a compelling story about relevant, current topics such as money laundering, corrupt politicians, police officers and tenderpreneurs. The new media landscape is also woven into the action in an informative and believable way. The fast pace keeps the reader riveted because you experience the action with Ami Prinsloo until the last page of the book. The growth of the characters makes them believable and flesh-and-blood people with whom you can identify. A good tension line is also maintained throughout.”

Venter was also awarded this prize in 2023 for Die verkeerde vrou (The Wrong Woman), the second novel in the Ami series. In this instance, the judges also lauded Ami Prinsloo’s authenticity and credibility, in addition to noting how refreshing it is to see criminal activity from the perspective of a journalist.

The new novel in this celebrated series will be published in Afrikaans next month.
